I and few of my friends called into Rep. Smith's office. The reply we got was that it would be effective only if more of his constituents called.
So, we need to get more locals from Rep. Smiths district to call ...

I have updated the front post to reflect our meeting information.
Now lets start on the game plan.
We would need some help from our leaders here..... what are the crucial topics that shall be discussed, and who are the people in state that we should target?
I think, calling our senetors and possibly arranging a meeting with them would be on our top of the list. But lets meet and discuss first to decide what points shall be covered, and what shall be avoided....etc...

If you e-file then you provide information for both. First I-485 EAD and then OPT card
If you do paper filing only I-485 EAD.
Depending on how you have applied, furnish information.
I have summarized my experiences, which is enriched by others in the following thread http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18737. You may find some useful information.
Thanks Dhundun for your help!

I think this an interesting discussion in the forum in a long long time. Allow me to jump in.
1. For those with labor stuck in BEC's, file PERM (2 months) +I-140 Premium Processing (10 days). Get a three years extension and move on to a new job. A new job always involve new challenges and learning is an excellent way to channel your energies. Point being there is a way out of the mess !!!
For others invoke AC-21 in I-485 stages.
2. Studying is another very good idea. What you study should be your personal decision. Doing MBA, or Acquiring new technical skill at local Universtiy or certifications (CCNA/CCIE/PMP). There are always things to learn and a good way to advance your career without GC.
3. For non-working spouses there is very little they can do, but Non-Profits is way to start and see if you can get an H1B later from the same or a new employer.
In nutshell you can cope up with this frustration by taking control of things that you can !!! Do not let this mess affect you more that what it should be.
For the rest let's help IV in any way we can. Have a good weekend.

Folks,
If this bill text passes, there will be a backlog center for all our I-140/I-485 petitons. We are limited by 90,000. Has anybody found any new relief for BEC candidates?
They are allocating supplemental greencard numbers for Z visa holders with a flexible limit and this supplemental allocation will go away once all Z visa holders adjust (end of page 287 and beginning of page 288).

Good morning,
If you pay a closer attention, I don't start threads. I just reply to messages following that topics you started. The real issue is that many members in this forum are so biased that you cannot take a different view.
For example, yesterday many in this noble forum became so uneasy and angry as soon as I mentioned that shift from democrats to republicans was triggered solely by the disatisfaction with the Iraq war. It turned out that Bil O'Reilly last night said the same thing. That is based on facts, because exit survey according to O'Reilly, did not indicate that people voted against Republicans due to other issues such as immigration. Then I went on and even showed articles from liberal newspapers such as The Nation to confirm my sources. CNN published e-mails from several voters on why they voted against republicans and immigration was not even mentioned in that sample. If you do not want to believe that and prefer to follow other views, that is fine. My point is, I won't get mad with you. I won't request that administrators shut you down. You have the option to do so. However, saying that my analysis is off base and I bring here unrelated topcis is not true. There are reputable people out there who agree with me. Grow up and learn how to deal with the reality.
What amazes me is that those are not fundamental issues for you to discuss and get so mad about. Who cares now on why people voted republicans out? For you and me it matters that we take the greencard and move on. I feel that it is my way to contribute when I admonish you about distorted views. I feel a need to provide this forum with another view, which many times I believe is the correct one. Bringing that level of critical thinking may strength your maturity and knowledge and that can certainly increase your skills in the fight for immigration relief for the employment based immigrants.
Best regards,
The Ombudsman
When I started this thread, I felt that some "positive" discussion will benefit us..But couple of earlier few posts, I felt that its drastically taking diffrenet turn whcih was not expected!!!
Is it a deliberate "diversion" to keep original thought away from discusson?
Amen!!

Financial applications - FI research. BTech Comp Sc IITBombay'96 9 years exp. Currently a part time NYU Masters student in Maths
As Sbabunle said, the quickest way is to join a consultancy.
I am unable to figure out exactly what your *skillset* with those limited keywords, but this is a quick summary of what I can help you with:
1) Help you get an IT job (if you have IT skills). Nothing to worry about not having IT skills. All you need is basic literacy and have to learn how to copy-paste. There are some exceedingly easy jobs like Business Analyst (which are for people who don't know anything) where you would have to copy paste from word documents.
2) If you don't have IT skills, but are willing to learn, I can find mentors who would train you. I can give you a quick intro to a wide-range of technologies and the career prospects.
3) Help get you a best rate. 90% of billing rate.
4) I can even convince that consultancy to donate the rest, 10%, to IV. This is a win-win situation for you as well as IV.
Let me know what all help you need and I'd be glad to help you with anything. My ph# is on my profile. I don't know whether you can access my profile, will send a PM.
Best,
Idler.

Dear Friends,
A lot of us are busy getting our questions answered for filing our I-485. It is a sincere request to all members to please call ALL 100 Senators expressing your opposition to Menendez amendment SA#1317. This is an extremely important Action Item and it is time sensitive matter. Every voice and every call counts. We have all asked/answered many questions about the recent I-485 filing wave and we may have more unanswered questions that we would like to be answered right now. However, please understand that Senate proceedings, cloture vote and Menendez Amendment will govern the future shape of the entire green card numbers and the entire process. No doubt filing I-485 accurately is important for all of us. But please give due consideration to this very important events and the bill which will affects our and our families’ lives.
Please call to oppose Menendez amendment.

USCIS reps did not mention any specific group to me. But what I was told was that, everyone's information should be in the USCIS system by August 1st. So urs would be too.
The group was just my analogy.

Total immigration numbers, not employment. The direct references in the report are:
Figure 3 Page CRS 9.
For the 2005 numbers, I approximated, using Appendix A on page CRS-22, which covered the top 50 countries sending immigrants and that was around 87% of the total.
Sorry - I can't currently access the report you quote your oringinal figures from at the beginning of your quote. Are these numbers of total immigration, or immigration in the highly skilled category?

BharatPremi has brought up a good point. There needs to be some corrective action that needs to be undertaken here.
At lease some of those that are absent from the meeting are not cowards as the core-team implies. We all know that.
State level members can judge the organization better than core-team that receives a "feedback" from state level leadership.
I have reservations about the style of texas leadership myself.
If we are open, let us discuss it at state level.
( Volunteership and leadership are not always the same )

I think you guys are current with the Aug bulletin only (EB2 India has been on Apr 04 for a while)...I was asking for folks with BEC EB2 with PDs that have been current for a while but still not received their GCs. WOuld be interesting to know and also gives an indication of how fast really USCIS adjudicates applications once they become current.

vbkris,
We have asked for "sorting by priority date" (updated first post with original letter to USCIS), so we should get the breakdown if we can define "priority date" for them.
What we get
1. We get number of EB2,EB3 Primary and EB2,EB3 Dependent applications.
2. From the wordings, I won't be suprized if they give a summarized number from 2001.
But if someone else requested this info broken into PD buckets by month and Year, then I think we need to use that. The letter I sent had that wording, but I never received any response yet.
Here is what we don't get
1. Break up by country - Helps folks in EB3 as ROW is not current
2. Some might have not applied for AOS for various reason like their I140 is still pending, Some companies mandate that. - This could be a small percentage
3. Break-up by PD month& year
More insight is welcome.. Pre-adjudicated cases are not approved cases. So they can't eliminate them..

There is no Santa Claus. Let me repeat, there is no Santa Claus.
Open your own forum, invest your own money, invest your own time, get your own following. If all of that seems too much, then rejoice that you are getting to have a lobbyist in DC for $20 a month.
Don't spoil my morning coffee with your whining. This is not an organization that was started because you started contributing, and therefore makes you have a say on leadership.
I think a change of leadership of IV is critical if we have to get anywhere. IV has not been able to achieve a single thing in all of its existence. Not a single thing, nada, zitto, zapata. Not disclosing the issues they are working on, not disclosing how the funds are distributed, not disclosing the lobbyist they are using. Who in the world calls that leadership!
That is the reason that no one wants to contribute. First get some results, show people results for what they have paid for. Then ask for more money. Most people I talk to are confident that IV will achieve nothing given their track record. I tried to convince a colleague to join IV. He bet with me that they will not be able to achieve even this filing I-485 issue. He bet that he will join and pay if they did.
I know IV works like dIVorced wIVes club and saying anything negative is taboo. Anyone saying anything negative is crushed with (p)curses. Only good mushy things are allowed here. So here it is: We will get our GCs by the end of the month. Hallelujah!
But I am writing this for the benefit of IV and please take this as constructively as you can. As a member, I have full right to suggest a change of leadership when I think it can help.

I know this is probably asking for trouble but no movement can be credible without listening to the dissenting voices. So here is my gripe ... You cannot open a single thread or forum without being asked for contributions these days. People are told that if they dont contribute, they are not "supporting the cause".
And this new caste system of the DONOR forum which basically says screw you to everyone who has spent time, money or effort on IV and completely goes against the "Change for fairness and Justice" mumbo jumbo is a step in the right direction, IV needs to give way to an actual movement that actually does something and this DONOR forum concept will certainly go a long way in the marginalization of this site and community.
Can I safely assume that you are another anti-immigrant wearing an immigrant's garb and whose sole intention is to argue back and forth with folks who believe in IV so that their energies are drained arguing with you and that they have no energy left to contribute to the common cause of the highly skilled community who by the way has no other voice out there besides IV?
I don't want to waste my energy arguing with you but let me put this nicely - If you don't believe in IV, please find an organization that caters to all your immigration needs and get the heck out of here!

Well majority of the people on this thread and forum is finding this as just cause, I am totally for it.
However no one is sure if this logic will hold water. Well none of us are lawyers, thus our arguments for or against doesn't hold. Someone said at the start of this thread that let's consult some big lawyers.
People are ready to contribute (including me) and I personally think that IV Core will be the best forum to take this up with lawyers. They already have an existing network, have folks that have participated in efforts related to legal immigration,
To IV Core
--------------
Country Quota is single biggest reason for retrogression, Have you guys (in the past) discussed with lawyers if removing Country Quota for EMPLOYMENT BASED can be legally challenged ??
If this has not been discussed do you guys think some one from lawyer forum (one that is on IV) can research on this ??
If above research shows things can be challenged then let's get it challenged through some esteemed lawyers !!
Also since so many people (once again including me) are ready to contribute, IV can become forum to raise money for this Legal challenge...like another pool.
I am sure people have talked, discussed about removing country quota in the past. However I am not sure if serious effort have been made to see if this can be challenged and that is the focus we all should have.

Visiting IV webiste after long time, (yes I got my GC :) ), feel nothing has changed, another flaming post from logiclife and he hopes it will touch egos of those ( as he calls them cowards), but my friend their skin so thick they won't even feel it,
I have been in this position, when I tried to start state chapter, I was not able to find single person, At that time I had EAD and sucessfully changed jobs, I knew many friends who were still in H1B and crib on every time how they have been exploited,
Anyway one thing comes to my mind, it still amazes how Mahatma Gandhi was able to inspire people out of this lot to do what they did
