Obama's lack of experience does not bother me as much as Palins because you have to see what people have done in whatever experience they have had. Obama did community service, has had a strong moral fiber in whatever he has said. Palin has already abused whatever little power she had. Being a senator Obama has atleast been exposed to world-wide issues. I bet Palin cant even locate Georgia on the map. Did you see her recent interview? In spite of it being carefully staged, see her stumble aimlessly when it comes to the question of the Bush Doctrine... The biggest foreign policy change this country made (decision to make pre-emptive attacks) and Palin does not have an opinion on it because she does not even know what it is. The interviewer had to tell her what teh Bush Doctrine is all about. Are'nt you scared of a person like that leading the US? Why does this country always pick screwed up vice presidents (Dick Cheney's approval ratings have been <30% for as long as I can recall)

I am a Person of Indian Origin. I have a slate-grey passport-like document issued by the Indian government that says so. But I�m not really. I was not born or brought up here, and I do not have a single direct ancestor who, as far as I know, ever lived in India. I have become the proud possessor of a Persons of Indian Origin card because I am married to an Indian citizen.
I had lived in India, on and off, for ten years�and had been married to an Indian citizen for even longer.
Two men were seated at the edge of the sofa, looking more nervous than me. Shireen was questioning them.
Previously, my visas were renewed every six months. We now wanted to stay in India indefinitely and make our home in Delhi. I would have preferred dual citizenship�but that wasn�t, and still isn�t, available. PIO would be second best. But the actual card was not easy to come by. It involved a total of 17 visits to three separate ministries and five different offices. It took up at least four full days of my life. I was interviewed twice, the second time at home with my wife, Shireen. The first time was at the offices of the Foreigners Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, in an unventilated, very public room brimming with non-Indians from every continent. I reached the head of the queue after two hours of eavesdropping on other people�s immigration problems. I was asked, among other more prosaic questions, to explain why I had married an Indian woman (�Love,� I said, monosyllabically), and then, with a leer and a twinkle, whether I had had many Indian girlfriends. �N-no�, I stuttered. My hesitant response did not reflect either uncertainty or mendacity on my part, but my surprise and my growing irritation with the questioner. The interview ended abruptly. He wrote �Refer for further enquiry� on my residence permit and said I would receive a home visit. �We need to be sure that marriages to Indian citizens are genuine.�
Several weeks later, one Friday afternoon around 5 pm, I received a phone call as I was pottering around the streets of central Delhi.
�He wanted a bribe, you idiot,� my friend said. �You�ll never get your card now; he�d have been happy with Rs 100.�
The investigators from the Home Ministry would be at my home at 5.30. As I rushed home, images of Mr and Mrs, a television programme of my UK childhood, flashed through my mind. A gormless husband would be placed in a soundproof booth, while his bright-as-a-button wife would stand on the stage. She would be asked semi-intimate questions about their life together: what was the first present she gave him when they were ? What colour nightclothes was she wearing yesterday? And so on. The husband was then released from the booth, and would invariably get the answers wrong, to his embarrassment and everyone else�s amusement. It was gentle viewing�a mild celebration of female omniscience and male autism. But now I was going to take part in a real-life version of Mr and Mrs, and my precious PIO card, and perhaps my right to stay in India, would depend on it. And, suddenly I could not, for the life of me, remember the colour of Shireen�s toothbrush, or the name of her favourite Hindi movie, or her shoe size. Pan Singh returned, a little sheepish, saying the man refused to come in, but just wanted a lifafa�with our marriage certificate. And so, slightly puzzled, I printed out another copy.
Later, I told a friend this story. �He wanted a bribe, you idiot. A lifafa is what you put the bribe in. You�ll never get your PIO card now, and he�d have been perfectly happy with 100 rupees.�
Three weeks later I went to the Foreigners� Regional Registration Office to hear the good news, and the bad. �Your application for a PIO has successfully passed the enquiry stage,� the official informed me without looking up. �But unfortunately, Mr Miller, all your documentation has gone astray and you will need to resubmit.� I looked heavenwards and brought my hand down rather heavily on the table. �I�m sorry. We�re not computerised yet, and some of our agents are a little careless.� It may have been my imagination, but I�m sure I detected the trace of a wink in her left eye. �Probably best to apply next time you�re in London,� she told me cheerfully. I walked away presuming, but unable to prove, that my papers had been deliberately lost.
I took her advice. Three weeks after putting in my application to the Indian High Commission in London (no interview necessary), I had my precious PIO card�together with a 15-year visa, the right to buy property in India, and, to my amusement, the ability to join the diplomats� queue at immigration at Delhi airport. This is confusing. In that case how do they make ROW current or PDs way ahead of India? In other words, how do they know without touching a file that PD of a ROW file is current and is eligible to get GC!
Think about the flip side. If this is true, then once they preadjuridict all cases, thousands of ROW cases will immediately become eligible to get GC and India / China will not move for year(s)!

I have said what I have felt. I am not going to be politically correct, never have been. This is not a forum for pracitising genteel speeches, pampering and politically correct messages.
If you RSVP that "I will come" and the host prepares entire day for meeting, makes her daughter skip the extra carricular activities, ends up using better part of weekend for an event she is thinking will be attended by you, but you dont show up even and dont even bother to call they you are cancelling, then you ought to be ashamed of yourself. If you do something like that in your workplace, then you will get fired. If you signup for a volunteer training/conference on behalf of your company, get company to book your travel, make them spend time/money and then on day of travel, you dont even show up at the airport and attend conference/training that you volunteered to attend, then you will get fired. You wont get fired from Immigration Voice and there are no personal consequence to your bad, lousy manners therefore its afforable to do so, and so you can do it.
If you think EAD is the end of the road and you are free now with AC21 options BUT on the contrary you feel more and more need to visit forums here, on Khanna portal, on Murthy's forums/chats then probably you are wrong, you are not free. You are still bound by strings that restrain your mobility and freedom.
LURKERS : And finally, if the only reason (and this is the most common reason) for not volunteering or participating in activities or contributions is that you are afraid of USCIS or some agency retaliating against your pending 485, and the problem is cowardice. The most common reason why we have 3 times more "visitors" then logged in members is that "visitors" are afraid of the government in the most democratic and free country in the world. I need you to login so that I can get email and information about you so that I can seek your help. And I dont need your help for my own personal gain. I am not going to sell you used cars to send you spams and advertisements about something I am selling. I am one of you. Struggling and fighting against an unfair system. I need your email - not to sell you fortune cookies - but to ask for funds, ask you to attend local events, ask you to meet lawmakers. None of these things bring a single penny to my bank account. my I-485 was nicely pending @ TSC, and the company just sent H1 papers off to VSC for processing, so I can come back on H1. I am currently sitting in London (working for my GC employer from their UK office), when I got the Card Production E-mail. My previous H1 approval expired in March.
My EAD will expire next month, as well as AP. So, here is the rub, they will not let me come back to US on AP since system shows GC approved, H1 will be rejected since GC is approved.
needless to say PD is not current. I kind of remember having an approved RIR Labor with PD June 2004, but I dont remember having sent for I-140...No idea what to do and how to check that.
Dont trust company's lawyer, and I sent all I-485 papers by myself back in July 2007. I have an attorney that I bug from time to time but he is on vacation now...
So... am I completely screwed...?
My employer transfered me from US to UK couple of months ago, now they are transfering me back. I did go for H1 stamping in Dec here in London and IO said something like, my GC is taking too long, he will check why I dont already have it..
Just venting here, no clue whom to talk to next....
Any suggestions are welcome...

I totally agree with you. The problem is, most of the women population on H-4 here have never thought of taking it up. Infact they should take the initiative and the husbands should cooperate. Thats right, eventually when the H1B emploee gets Employement Authorization through GC process, the H4 spouse automatically becomes eligble to work and have better opportunities than any H1B holder. Why can't a H4 have a work authorization same as J2 or L2 or E2. Does ImmigrationVoice considered this thought and thinks as a good point to raise it to the senate in one of their efforts?

I called USCIS today and they asked my name and date of birth and they gave me my Receipt Number for I-140.
My I-140 was recieved on July 16th and they generated a receipt notice and have sent me...I shud probably recieve it by this week.

It's really meaningless for you to keep talking about "too many here from EU". This country is formed by those people from EU(and American Indians) to start with. If you were here two hundred years ago, you were part of them, no one will ask you for GC. Those people who came to this land two hundred years ago and their descendants are now recognized as Americans. They are no longer English, German, French, Italian...etc. They are Americans and this is their country which is called United State of America.
When this country starts the immigration law, does the law say only people from Asia is limited to 7% and not for people from EU ?
If this country today has no limitation with immigration and welcome anyone to come and stay forever at any time. This country will not be a great country anymore and I am sure many of you will not care to come to this land anymore but seek for another place.

Those people who came to this land two hundred years ago and their descendants are now recognized as Americans. They are no longer English, German, French, Italian...etc. They are Americans and this is their country which is called United State of America.
When this country starts the immigration law, does the law say only people from Asia is limited to 7% and not for people from EU ?
If this country today has no limitation with immigration and welcome anyone to come and stay forever at any time. This country will not be a great country anymore and I am sure many of you will not care to come to this land anymore but seek for another place.

Well, if your travel agent offers a Air France ticket, refuse and tell him the reason why u don't want to fly them.
First of all their tickets are way too pricy. People pay shit load of money and get treated like a dogs?? We have choice no matter where u fly from. Try to avoid these European carriers. Try to fly Asian or Indian carriers.
Air France needs to learn that everybody is a customer, irrespective of their skin color/race. And every customer is entitled to same service as rest of them.

The Cantwell amendment and Lieberman amendment will fail to pass the vote. It doesnt matter whether its ordered to lie on table or whether its ordered to take a nap on the table or have some lemonade on the table. And it doesnt matter what any of those "Motion to... " means.
Both of those amendments, if debated, will fail. It will take 10 seconds for Bernie Sanders, Ted Kennedy and Dick Durbin to scream on top of their lungs and kill it. And the reason is very simple. There is a massive H1B exemption ON TOP OF 180,000 QUOTA. People who have been so successful this year so far in restricting H1 and employment based GCs are not going to miss that nice little H1 exemption at the bottom of both these amendments. So stop scratching your heads over what the "lying on table" means, because whatever is lying on table is unpassable if it somehow awakes from the table and starts dancing in the well of the senate floor.

Isn't just I485 receipt enough -

( (a) AND (b) ) OR (c)
+ Photographs:

You must submit two identical color photographs of yourself taken within 30 days of the filing of this application.

They stood up bravely to spread the word about all of us. Earlier no one in the capital hill spread the word for persons like you and me.
simple political equation why we (means IV) should also change the strategy. Need to work with someone much closer to Dem. Party and inner circles. I hope you are well educated enough to understand these kind of things. If not atleast do the following favour.

Your application will be processed until the stage where a visa number is needed to adjudicate your case. Since EB3 (am assuming here) ROW is not current. Your app will wait until visa numbers for your category becomes current. In other words, your last sentence may be true. But not if you become vocal about your plight and fight for it through activism (i.e by supporting Immigration Voice).
Exactly correct - if your pd is no longer current, your application will still progress. If all goes well, it will then fall into the "approved pending visa availabilty" - ie when your pd becomes current again, it will quickly be granted. This phenomenon is how uscis managed to approved so many applications from may onwards this year, there was a queue within a queue, so to speak :)
Back to the numbers game - what I was trying to say is, regardless of what the total numbers of pending applications are (because no one really knows - we can have best guesses), and not taking into count the country caps, the main issue is effciency of processing. The country quotas could disappear, and the overal limit couyld be increased, but without reforming the actual processing side the speed of approval will not change.
