I did not want to initiate that discussion because it may be a long one, but let me share my experience:

My recommendation is that folks take an MBA only if you already have a firm position in mind that you want to go for an executive or upper management position in the future. That line of thought is specially applicable when you are paying the whole thing from your own pocket !!! Before working in a management position or taking the MBA, I did not know how much I liked the idea of becoming a CIO or CEO. I tought I knew it, but until you actually experiment it, as many things in life you don't know for sure. Well, after completing 50% of the program I realized that was not my short or mid-term goal to work as an executive reading accounting net income balance sheets or maketing professional, even if I had the GC handy.

In my personal opinion, taking an MBA merely to enhance your project management when you are PAYING FROM YOUR OWN POCKET it may be a very bad strategy. If others are paying for you, of course that is fine, but it is not the case for many of us. I had only one or two courses related to project management anyway.

If you just want to enhance your project management skills, you might want to invest in way more direct courses such as PMP, ITIL, Microsoft Operations Framework. You should be able to complete those with a fraction of the cost and time of an MBA and probably achieve more return and knowledge than what the MBA can offer you when it comes to project management.

For those who are sure you want to read balance sheets, work with marketing analysis and go away from the hands-on experience, then MBA may be right for you.

I don't want to discourage you, but there are documents out there showing that MBA's are overrated and the importance of it is under scrutiny. Since I already found offers from multiple employers who were willing to pay 100% (if you are a qualified professional like us, it is not difficult to find employers willing to pay for it once you can change jobs) personally I thought I could wait a little longer to get the MBA and invest in IT certifications now paying from my own pocket.

    Just my humble opinion.

Agree with you, it is always about knowledge, information, contacts, and ability to adapt rather than investing on high cost education unless you have someone else paying or u r stinking rich or u get a scholarship.

I can see sammyb's frustration but there is something to be said for collective intelligence and opnion. If we start restricting access to the site we loose out on the "Wisdom of the Crowds". A good example is free file sharing websites that have very few people contributing (<10%) but the benefit to the community is huge and the membership becomes ever larger because it is free. So as IV becomes more popular (which should be are foremost goal) there will be more people willing to contribute (even though the percentage of people contributing might still be small). I am not making a case for free loaders, instead I am making a case for free access to information.

I salute Needhelp! for her commitment to this cause.

Why can't we move from a free service to a membership based and see how many people still continue ... evenif with 25K members it is only a handful who are active and part of the initiative ... so I would suggest to go for a membership ...

it could be a per month basis or pay a big amount and get membership for life or year ... say $200 for a year or $20 for a month ... we don't need the number/mass unless they are active in all way ... just my thoughts ... hope the IV core team will consider that ... enough of free rides ... now pay for it and get the access to forums ...

Letter from John Shadegg urging others to join in the support of the "SKIL" Bill.

    http://www.house.gov/pence/rsc/doc/CA_070306_shadeggSKIL.pdf

Guess, using this, one can send a webfax to other house members urgingthem to support this bill.

This letter has no mention of the problems regarding permanent residency, it only refers to the H1-B quota issues, we should contact the Congressman Shadegg to clarify that its not just about the H1-B, the problem also lies in the immigration process of skilled workers. If this is not part of his bill then we should urge(request) him to include this.

I highly recommend Jessie Ho in Cupertino, CA. www.jessieho.com.

She responds to email/phone very reasonably (about an hour via email and 99% of the time answers phone). She worked over weekend to file I485.

She went out of her way to even pay USCIS filing fees from her pocket as there was a delay in processing compnay check. How many of your Lawyers will do that?

My I-140 was filed on July 6 and arrives at USCIS on July 9.
The check was cashed on July 12 and I was able to get the receipt number. BUT BY NOW I HAVE NOT RECEIVE THE RECEIPT. It seems many people are in the same boat. What we can do about it?

Anybody knows how many days it would take between they cash the check and mail out the receipt? What address do they use?

Did u get the receipt number on the back of the cheque or did u call USCIS and get it ???

The frustration of EB3 folks is very visible and I might get a bad rap for my post. But I wanted to share a few thoughts , if you will:

I fully sympathize with EB3I folks. Of all, you have been waiting longest. But were you really expecting a miracle in this Visa bulletin? Or are you more upset now that EB2 has moved forward significantly and EB3 has not? This is not a criticism , just a question.

Secondly, given the reality, I would say with lobbying etc, let me advise you that you ask your employer to start processing EB2 application for you and then use PD porting. With number of years you have spent in current job, I would advise you try and impress on your employer to do this urgently. If this does not work out, I would say you can look for another job. (This would apply to those who are in permanent job and not paying out of their pocket for GC). I mean with so many years in the same job, you definitely qualify for promotion. If I were you, I would not take the corporate BS.

It is also a matter of numbers. If you are the only EB3 person from your company then you are probably screwed, but if you have a few employees, then you network with them informally and then press as a "group" on your employer.

I have always been a supporter of EB3 to EB2 porting and even when I was not current, I did not oppose it. While there are other avenues such as lobbying, lawsuits etc, it takes a lot of work and at the end of the day benefits are not really tangible. I would suggest you guys make full use of the door that is open, EB3-> Eb2 porting. It is in your hands to get this done.

Totally agree with you. I know guys who worked in production support and QA applied in EB2. At the same time people like me in positions such as Architect went with the ill-fated EB3. It is sad, but is the truth.

    Dear Architect:

Get your "Bu__" moving and try getting another job which will qualify you for an Eb2. Stop whining like a Public sector employee and get out of your comfort zone. Go achieve something.

I understand Logic life vehement opinion . I have seen so many guys around me , who want to do nothing unless they are complied to ...Thos people so called educated have no idea of what they have to go through in future to get the final gC . I feel that its time to make this site as paid site .Just like anti immigrant group , we should make this site Searchable /able to post the messages and get expertise opinion ,just for the people who volenteer and /or contribute ...
With the free riders coming on this site , the only things thats going to increase is website hits not the contributions.
We can put a poll to take common consesus.

    Just my 2 cents..

Not many goodies this time..thats what all the analysts/experts seem to be predicting.
True, Unless congress enacts a law allowing the usage of unused visa and or increase in available number for LRP, else EB2 with later PD must explore EB1 to get ahead of the EB3's porting to EB2 with old PD :( .. Well, the point is, NO other options except increase in visa / re-use unused visa from past years can help every one here. Everything else, discussed / debated will be a waste of time ...

I never understood until this point how come a letter requesting to port job using AC 21 in most cases never reach the file, whereas the letter requesting to revoke I 140 from employers are getting processed in 99% of the case. maybe its an excuse to get rid of some of the backlog :confused:

Good question. They take action immediatly on I-140. If you send any document releated to 485, they may be using as a tissue paper. I sent a letter regarding my address change, they never took the action. Later I found that thro phone call, and changed the address over the phone. So, AC21 paper also not exemption. Perhaps, they may take action if send a another check.

You get what you pay for, in a way.

I am indifferent towards AI since I have traveled only once on AI & my experience was reasonable.

However, I found this article in TOI today -

NEW DELHI: In a show of compassion towards a bereaved passenger who had to rush to Chennai but was short of cash, Air India officials at the Indira
Gandhi International airport here pooled in money to pay for his ticket.

M Pandian, 40, had lost one of his dear ones in Chennai and reached IGI airport in the morning with a hope of getting a seat in any of the low-cost carriers.

"After reaching airport, he tried to get a ticket in the low-cost carriers, but the timings and the ticket prices did not suit him," an airport official said.

With the hope of getting a low fare ticket on an Air India flight, he reached the ticketing counter where he found the ticket price to be Rs 5,059.

As he had just Rs 4,200 in cash and had no ATM or credit card, Air India officials present at the spot came to his rescue and pooled the deficit amount of Rs 800 to pay for his ticket on flight IC-429 for Chennai.

Pandian profusely thanked them for their humanitarian gesture and took the flight.

I am not a lawyer, but this is what my understanding: if your I-485 was is pending for at least 180 days and your I-140 was approved at the time when you used AC21, you should be safe. In this scenario, even if the ex-employer revokes your I-140, you should be fine and if USCIS has denied your I-485 based on this, you should be able to fight it.

USCIS usually won't deny a I-485 unless the applicant was out of status at some point of time. Sometimes, the attorney messes up the application somewhere and that causes denial. But again, as someone has mentioned, USCIS is suppose to issue NOID before denying it. If they haven't done so, this gives you an additional material to fight the denial.

I would suggest that you wait for the denial notice and see what it says. If it sounds complicated or you think the USCIS has made a mistake, get a reputable attorney and file a MTR.

After searching on google, i found almost 20 cases on first 2-3 pages itself indicating the denial notice and MTR.

I think they are just sending denials to put us in another limbo.... Its going to be the hardest and longest 10-15 days of my life........

Canada and Australia are good backup options. You want to apply for one of these countries as a backup while waiting for your GC.

going by the current EB 3 india scenario,I think canada and australia seem to be good 1st and 2nd options respectively and I will keep US GC as the last option as it looks more far fetched than the other two.

First of all I think logiclife will go in the history of immigration books as the movers that existed in this generation. I am amazed at how motivated the IV core team is and how smoothly they have organized the whole show so far.

I salute you. Hats off to you guys.

I read a lot of newspaper articles after the rally and they always seemed to mention that Indian and Chinese legal aliens protesting backlogs. I think there should be some effort to also include people from other nationalities such as Russians, Englishmen, Philipinos, Chinese and other nationalities. Now I know they are not hit as hard as us but they go thru some serious backlog as well if they are in the EB3 category.

Question is I am thinking how?

    Any ideas guys?
