Guys,
What Mr. Charles Oppenheim is doing is trying to build a Consensus to create a legislative relief.
So, they want us to create an awareness and buyin from decision Makers.

I agree. This was always there and it is only now that the government has acknowledged it. Mr. Oppenheim has given us ammunition to build our case and we must use it wisely.
Maybe we can have a have a "send fax" feature on IV from where we can quote Mr. Oppenheim's statement to send a fax to our senators. Also, it is high time that IV is a paid site even if it is $1 per month or 1 cents a day i.e. $3 per month. As I suggested in the past, new members/ visitors should be allowed to read the forums but to post a question or reply to a question one should be a paid member. I am confident that even with $1/month of 1 cent/day we will do better collections that we are doing now.

I think it is a good idea..Everyone should write to local Congressman/Women senator detailing the case and asking Why it is taking so much time to process the AOS.
They will come back with standard answer like country quota etc..BUT

I would say we should start with local congressional office. Every case whether it is resolved or not should be taken to the attention of local congressional office.
If members volunteer to do this, we could distribute districts among ourselves and take care of each district's congressional office. In that way we could raise the awareness among the lawmakers. I do agree that not every office will be friendly to immigrants like my district's congressional office, but we have to try.

Cut-off days not only determine number of applications that can be received at their end, but also the make eligible applications approvable. I think at times when the cut-off date resulted in more approvable cases than USCIS can handle, then they move it back as well.
May be they should have two cut-off days instead of one like this:
1. One for receiving applications beyond that date.
2. Another for approval.
This may help them to pick necessary applications needed from this pool and approve them without losing the allocated visas.
I think change has to come from the legislation wing to amend the procedure in USCIS.

I think they will apply spillover only in the last quarter (July-sept 2010). Nothing will happen till July. And even in the last quarter, significant jump would be only in sept.

I am sorry for posting in here, but I was wondering if someone actually went in person to the Houston Consulate to get their passport renewed. Also, do we need to have any reason to attend in person at the Consulate such as emergency, etc.
I am from India and my passport is expiring on Aug 17. I read before in the forum that it is better to go in person to renew the passport. Any experiences please let me know.

desi - I am not sure how we do that but I personally think if we ask such a thing we are letting USCIS send us denial notice even though they must not send it.
I absolutely agree with you that in first place, CIS MUST NOT revoke 485 when a person changes to similar job after 485 is pending for more than 180 days and 140 has been already approved.
IV is already running the campaign to send letters (I did send mine) and hopefully it will get us good results.
However, we should still know what happens to EAD in such unfortunate event. Many AOS candidate, specifically from retrogressed countries may have gone beyond 6 years of H1B and may not get H1B extended based on this pending 485. or many must be working on EAD as many employers are not willing to sponsor the H1B. In this case, knowing the validity of EAD will surely helps.
Meanwhile, here is another RG thread (http://immigration-information.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25447&postcount=7) found, clearly talks about this issue.

According to the procedures, until they enter data into their central sytem, it seems it's pretty tough to say that they intervene somewhere and sort out by PD. Section 6: Workload Distribution might be the key to answer our questions, but the section is missing.
So they enter the applications in the order they're received, and each application is given an "RD." The "RD" indeed plays a role in the adjudication: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/Processtimes.jsp?SeviceCenter=NSC

The answer is "No" - my employer is also not willing to sign that form. They are saying that its against their policy to push Ombudsman or CIS for a I-140 which is pending for 15 months.
They are saying that the only thing they can do for me is "opening a service request" after 60 days of "Processing Date Update" Now Processing Date update is stuck @ Mar 22nd 2007 for last 4 months , so they are happy they are not obligated to do that either.
This is a huge Pain because 140 is actually employer petition and we are beneficiaries.
Lonedesi - Please advise, I'm ready to mail just the letter to CIS Ombudsman.

They open up the gate for all July filer, then closed it and then re-open it again when many protested. So, when someone shared the news that USCIS is not going to accept the july filings, everyone mocked him but that came out to be true.
Forum is all about sharing information. It depends on our judgement as how much we want to believe on that. Srikondji shared some information which he learned from the CRs, now it's up to you if you want to blindly follow that or use that information as a way to curb your anxiety.
People started cursing logiclife when he posted about the FAQ4 to be released by friday and it didn't. But it did came after 2-3 days. So someone who shared that info with Core might have just said we are trying our best to come up with FAQ4 and will release it by Friday and core shared that info with everyone. But that doesn't mean that people should take that info as if it doesn't come on Friday, it will be the end of the world and core should loose his credibility. FAQ4 did came after couple of days and all those people who were cursing logiclife were no where to be seen.
If you put up a clause that no-one should share the info, unless you have a word from God, I guess we'll not have more than 2 or 3 threads here.
So guys..bottom line is stop fighting over what someone said or not, concentrate on what you are doing about it.
As someone rightly said, "Listen to all but do what you think is right". There is similar adage in hindi but I'm not using hindi so that everyone can understand it.

Looks like USCIS did all the easy work in June and now they are getting to grip with the reality (that they cannot process even 140K GC in a year!!!). How shameful. May be all the USCIS folks worked so hard during the last few weeks in June that they would have taken a long break from work after June:D:D
If there is a official press release regarding the visa number wastage, then we can take that along with the July 2 visa bulletin and meet with lawmakers to get some accountability from USCIS. This is BS.

Does this now mean that for a non-advanced degree holder the qualification needed for EB2 is Bachelors+10 years of ex. ? If this is true it's really messed up for all the EB3's hoping to port to EB2 based on experience.

According to the State Department, from October 1, 2006 through May 30, 2007, the USCIS requested and was authorized the total EB visa numbers of 66,426. Between June 1 and the first few days of July (?), the USCIS requested and was authorized over 60,000 EB visa numbers, in approximately one month. Since it has been made clear by the USCIS that during the last weekend of June (2 days) the USCIS approved 25,000 EB 485 applications, apparently over 40,000 visa numbers were requested and authorized before the weekend. Obviously the 60,000 plus cases must thus have been approved (?) in one month
